01 · The origin

The epicenter of Greek civilization.

There was a public square located in the center of Athens which was the epicenter of Greek civilization. Philosophers, politicians, mathematicians, poets, and scientists met in the market to socialize and contemplate. Here, some of the world's most revolutionary ideas were born.

The Agora/ˈaɡərə/defined as “meeting place”

02 · Ideas in motion

One square. A world of consequences.

The intellectual world of ancient Greece shaped enduring traditions in civic government, deductive mathematics, and medical ethics. Select each subject to examine its historical meaning and intellectual legacy.

Athenian democracy was a system of direct civic participation in which eligible citizens deliberated and voted in the Assembly, held public office, and served on citizen juries. Although citizenship was restricted primarily to free adult Athenian men, the system was revolutionary because it placed significant political authority directly in the hands of ordinary citizens rather than solely in those of kings, tyrants, or narrow aristocratic elites. Athenian democracy later would go onto shape most western democratic republics.

Imagine the square anew

A space for the latest ideas in the world.

Imagine there was a space for talking about nothing but the latest ideas in the world, a space for engaging with leaders about the deepest questions humanity faces, a space where meeting new friends over a cup of Joe and fine tea is no rare occasion...

“If an environment like this existed, who would it attract?”

04 · The people it attracts

A magnet for seekers, thinkers, and builders.

Perhaps those who long to be critical and reflective about things most people take for granted... Or those looking to take inspiration from the world's brightest minds... Or those who are infected with a desire to make an indelible impact on the world, looking for a like-minded team that dares to tackle what ails the human condition. The Agora is a magnet for these kinds of individuals.
